Andy’s Summer Playhouse in Wilton announces 2014 summer season

WILTON – Andy’s Summer Playhouse announces a season of four original plays, which will celebrate roles and role models for girls in 2014.

Andy’s is a nonprofit children’s theater that has been providing youth from ages 8-18 the chance to work with professional artists to create energetic and innovate productions for the past 43 years.

At the Andy’s Winter Gala on Dec. 28, Producing Artistic Director DJ Potter noted his commitment to providing opportunities for girls and young women (who last year made up more than 60 percent of Andy’s participants) on and backstage in the coming season and to engaging more female writers and directors to mentor the young participants.

“The 2014 season will present stories from history and imagination about women adventurers and artists; there will be roles for girls and boys and more professional women directors than we have had in recent past. We are also excited to bring back Andy’s touring production to serve more kids and reach more communities,” he said.

The touring production will be a fourth production in the season, traveling to four or five towns (depending on available sponsorship) outside of Andy’s home base in Wilton. In addition, Andy’s will continue to offer its young Play Lab program and new play festival.

Auditions for all productions will be Sunday, March 9, in Temple and Saturday, March 15, in Milford. Audition sign ups are online at https://andys2014

Were the girls telling the truth or just acting out for attention? Either way, one thing was certain, girls across the country had finally found their voice and were going to continue to use it by whatever means necessary.
