Milford and Amherst budget hearings start next week
Budget season began months ago as finance committees began reviewing tentative town and school spending plans for next year. This month, voters in Amherst and Milford can get into the process that will end on Election Day in March.
In Amherst, there are three public hearings next week, for the town budget and the two school districts. The town budget and bond hearing for fiscal 2015 is on Monday, Jan. 13, at 6:30 p.m., in the Barbara Landry meeting room of Town Hall.
The Amherst School District and Souhegan Cooperative School District, consisting of Amherst and Mont Vernon, hearings are back-to-back on the same night – Wednesday, Jan. 15 – with Amherst at 6 p.m. and Souhegan at 7 p.m.
In Milford the town budget and bond hearing is also Monday, Jan. 13, at 6:30 p.m., in the selectmen’s meeting room in Town Hall.
The Milford School District budget and bond hearing is on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m., in Room 182 at the high school.
The Mont Vernon School District hearing is Thursday, Jan. 16, at Village School.
After the public hearings, there will be Deliberative Sessions in February when voters can discuss and amend warrant articles that will be on the ballot for March 11.
Because the towns of Mont Vernon, Wilton and Lyndeborough still operate under the old town meeting system, rather than the Senate Bill 2 ballot voting system, their budget hearings aren’t until February.
