Upbeat Milford artist nominated for New England Music award

MILFORD – A young local musician has started her music career on the right note.

Fourteen-year-old Emily Marie Coffey, aka EMMARIE, is the youngest nominee for Indie/Pop Act of the Year at this year’s New England Music Awards.

The awards, which span multiple music categories, are presented each year to New England artists who have contributed to the music scene in the region.

EMMARIE started her music career two years ago after falling in love with musical theater and classical musical training. Now, she creates her own music for her lyrics alongside remixed cover songs.

She describes her style of music as Indietronica, which includes influences from pop, rock, R&B, dubstep and a collection of other genres.

“I just thought that it really fit my voice and allowed me to express myself better,” EMMARIE said.

Personal expression and a positive message are important aspects to this young musician’s production. She wants her audience to be lifted up by her music no matter their age. Songs like “Fighting Dragons” and “Like Me” have a special messages that EMMARIE hopes will bring joy to listeners.

“My message is that you always be yourself and be true to who you are, no matter what,” EMMARIE said. “As long as you stay the way you are, then you are happy.”

That positive outlook is carried beyond her music as she raises money and awareness for causes like anti-bullying, Tunes for Tots, Relay for Life, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and many others. Half of the proceeds from her 2013 tour is given to Love, Hope and Strength, which supports cancer centers around the world through music.

The award-winning musician has performed on stages across the nation from Boston to California. She is honored to be chosen as a nominee for the New England Music Awards out of thousands of applicants. She is up against artists Coke Weed, Dan and the Wildfire, Darlingside and Erika Van Pelt in her category this year.

The New England Music Awards will take place in Lowell, Mass., on Feb. 22. You can vote for EMMARIE and other NEMA nominees at www.nemusicawards.com until Friday, Jan. 31.

EMMARIE has just released a new song called “Go Big or Go Home” and will be releasing more singles later this year. For information on her music and future show dates, visit reverbnation.com/emmarieofficial.
