Merrimack police charge Amherst man with sexual assault of teenager

MERRIMACK – Merrimack police have charged an Amherst man with sexually assaulting a teenager, an alleged assault that was disclosed to a school resource officer at Merrimack High School.

A 15-year-old student told high school officials and the Merrimack police officer who works at the school on Feb. 4 that he or she had been sexually assaulted the previous day at home, police said.

Merrimack detectives investigated and later arrested Gary Crane, 21, of Amherst, the afternoon of Feb. 6. He is charged with one count of felonious sexual assault, a Class B felony; however, police expect to file more charges, police said.

Crane is being held on $50,000 cash bail and was arraigned at Merrimack district court on Feb. 6, police said.
