Water main break in Milford
Be prepared to stop was a caution still posted at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, when a water line break in the 200 block of Nashua Street in Milford affected motorists heading to or from the Milford Oval. Traffic continued to be detoured around the scene of a water line break for several hours. Crews from the Milford Water Department used heavy machinery and plenty of manpower to excavate a cavity beneath the road and allow access to the rupture. Workers attributed the water leak to the heaving of frozen earth, soil so saturated with ice that it was able to intermittently expand, then contract, and eventually shift the pipe and cause a leak.
