Keep the Blue Bus rolling in Milford

To the Editor:

In the several years that I sat on the Milford Board of Selectmen, I was a very strong supporter of the Souhegan Valley Transportation Collaborative.

More commonly known as the Blue Bus, this service provides curb-to-curb, nonemergency health-related transportation and rides for shopping and other essential destinations that enhance the lives of those who rely on this transportation. This transportation resource is available to residents of Milford, and every effort has been made to minimize its expense to the town of Milford.

After leaving the Board of Selectmen, I was honored to be asked to join the board of directors of the SVTC and have learned a great deal about all that it does and how much our all-volunteer board and so many in the community do to keep this service going. As of the end of January, the Blue Bus had provided a total of 13,383 rides, and of those Milford residents had used 9,861 or nearly 74 percent of the total.

With only 139 more rides to go, I am sure that Milford residents will have used 10,000 rides by the time you read this letter. I ask for Milford voters to vote yes on Article 14 of this year’s warrant in to keep the Blue Bus rolling in Milford.
