Amherst company to hold 20th Kitty Angels Fundraiser

AMHERST – Treasures Antiques, Collectables & More in Amherst will hold its 20th annual Kitty Angels Fundraiser from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, May 3-4.

Kitty Angels is a nonprofit, no-kill cat shelter made up of unpaid volunteers dedicated to rescuing stray and abandoned cats, furnishing them with treatment for injuries or other health issues, and placing them into “forever homes.”

Also attending will be representatives of the Amherst Animal Hospital, which has helped Kitty Angels by taking care of hundreds of the worst-case kitty patients – some sadly mangled or critically ill – and given them a second chance at life.

The 2013 event had 138 vendors who filled the grounds in an entertaining crafts, flea market, yard sale and county-fair type atmosphere.

The New England Brethren of Pirates, a re-enactment and improv troupe, will be back, entertaining guests as characters from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies and playing pirate-themed games with children.

One of the newest features this year will be the addition of the “General Lee,” a Dodge Charger from “The Dukes of Hazzard,” and “Son of Trigger,” a 1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo from “Smokey and the Bandit II.” Their appearances are sponsored by Graphic Signworks of Nashua.

Other attendees will be Sillie Puffs, Pet Pawlicy, Anthony Acres Kitty Cat Farm, Laurel Hill Jams & Jellies, Valentine Seeds, Cluck & Baa Farm, Starbucks, artisans and crafters, even a whimsical face painter. There will be baked goods and natural-product foods. Nevejans Farm, of Tyngsborough, Mass., will again bring along a petting zoo.

A raffle will be featured throughout the weekend and into June.

This annual event is the “pet” charity of Treasures owners Rick and Sherry Tobin. To date, their fundraising efforts have exceeded $40,000.

To make a donation through Treasures, send a check or money order made out to Treasures, with “Kitty Angels” in the memo section, to Treasures Antiques, 106 Ponemah Road, Amherst, NH 03031.

Other donations accepted are postage stamps, cat food, kitty litter (nonscoopable preferred), medical supplies, bedding, carriers, cleaning supplies, photocopy paper, cat toys and cat furniture.
