Amherst has new septic regulations

AMHERST – Town officials are looking for feedback on the town’s updated septic system regulations.

Katherine Lockwood, Amherst’s health officer, told selectmen May 12 that the revisions are aimed at protecting lakes, streams and groundwater and keeping up with technology.

The May 12 board meeting was the first of two public hearings on the revisions, and the next one is at the selectmen’s meeting on Tuesday, May 27.

The regulations can be viewed in Town Hall, and anyone with concerns can contact Town Administrator Jim O’Mara at 673-6041.

Except for one part of the regulations inserted in 2003, Lockwood said, they haven’t been updated since the early 1970s.
