Milford woman jailed on drug charges after partner dies

MILFORD – A Milford woman was jailed on drug charges Sunday after her partner was found dead in their home on Federal Hill Road.

Police Detective Olivia Siekman and Medical Examiner Nancy Weston responded to 155 Federal Hill Road around 5:45 p.m. May 18 to investigate a suspicious death and found the body of John Paul Young, 33.

According to the court affidavit, while Siekman was talking to Shelley L. Young, 28, she noticed a plastic baggie sticking out of her front pants pocket with a beige substance inside that later tested positive as heroin.

After Young was arrested, police say they found another plastic baggie in her pocket, and she told them she had removed the drugs from John’s person because he is a good man and she did not want drugs found on him.

Young was charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled drug and falsifying physical evidence.

Milford Police Prosecutor Michael McCall said the cause of John Young’s death has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing.

At Shelley Young’s arraignment in 9th Circuit Court in Milford on May 19, Judge Martha Crocker reduced her bail from $10,000 cash to $10,000 cash or bond.

Shelley Young, described as John Young’s “significant other” in court papers, is scheduled for a probable cause hearing May 28 at 10 a.m.
