Young waives probable cause hearing in Milford court

MILFORD – Shelley L. Young waived a probable cause hearing in Milford’s 9th Circuit Court on May 28. The case now moves to Superior Court in Nashua.

Young, 28, of 155 Federal Hill Road, Milford, was charged with drug possession with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled drug and falsifying evidence after the May 18 death of her ex-husband, John Paul Young, 33, at their home.

Attorney Ed Cross, Young’s public defender, said the case now moves to Hillsborough County Superior Court in Nashua where the county attorney will gather evidence to present to a grand jury. If a grand jury indicts Young, the case will be tried in superior court.

On May 18, police and a medical examiner responded to the home around 5:45 p.m. to investigate a suspicious death and found the body of John Paul Young. According to the court affidavit, the Milford detective found two plastic baggies in Shelley’s clothing containing a substance that later tested positive as heroin.

Police said she told the detective she had removed them from John’s person after he died because she didn’t want drugs found on him.

Young was originally jailed on $10,000 cash bail, and she was released from jail after bail was reduced to $10,000 cash or bond.
