Milford family says they foiled car break-in; pair face charges

MILFORD – It was Monday morning, a little before 7, and Holly Lenhart was looking out her living room window on Highland Street and noticed something that struck her as suspicious: a young man walking down the street who kept glancing behind him.

Then a girl appeared and entered Lenhart’s son’s car, which was parked in the driveway.

“I couldn’t believe what was happening, in broad daylight,” she said.

So Lenhart went out to the car, a Chevrolet Cobalt, and confronted the girl.

The girl “had a deer in the headlights look,” Lenhart said, and she said something about looking for her dog.

Then Holly’s husband, David, and her son and his girlfriend all came out of the house.

By that time, said Holly, the man and the girl had started walking quickly down Amherst Street past St. Patrick Church, with David, Holly, and Brian Lenhart and Brian’s girlfriend, Christina Langley, following them.

One of the family members had called 911, and they were determined not to let the couple get away.

A scuffle ensued, police showed up and an ambulance arrived because Langley suffered a slight nosebleed in the tussle.

“We can laugh about it now, but it wasn’t funny this morning,” Holly said. David has been going door to door advising their neighbors to lock their car doors.

Police wound up charging Ashley LaMarche, 18, of 37 Souhegan St., Milford, with simple assault, theft from a motor vehicle, possession of controlled drugs (marijuana), criminal trespassing, criminal threatening and resisting arrest.

LaMarche was brought to the Hillsborough County House of Corrections in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. After an arraignment the same morning, July 14, her bail was reduced to $750 cash and she was returned to jail. She has an Aug. 20 court date at the 9th Circuit Court, Milford.

Timothy D. Whitehouse, 22, of 37 Souhegan St., Milford, was arrested and charged with contributing to the conduct of another and released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail. His court date is Aug. 20.
