Church of Our Saviour to hold Blessing of the Animals at Emerson Park
MILFORD – The Church of Our Saviour in Milford will be celebrating the gift of animals in our lives with a Blessing of the Animals ceremony at Emerson Park, adjacent to the Milford Post Office, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
Area pets and their owners are encouraged to take part in the ceremony where they can come forward for an individual blessing. Treats for the pets and prayer cards for their owners will be presented.
The gathering will also be a time to honor the memory of our departed pets.
The annual ceremony, which will include a liturgy for the thanksgiving and blessing of our animals, is held at this time of year in recognition of the feast of St. Francis, patron saint of animals and the environment.
A free-will offering will be conducted with all proceeds going to the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire to help care for animals still awaiting new families.
All animals must be leashed, caged or crated and owners are expected to pick up after the pets. In case of inclement weather the event will be moved to the church’s lower level accessible via the Amherst Street entrance.
