Police pursuit ends in arrest of Milford man
MILFORD – A Milford man is being held on $25,000 bail after police say he drove at two officers with his car, then fled into the Hilton Homes section of town where he hit two cars and a tree.
William R. Sylvester, 28, of 72 Whitten Road, is charged with four felonies: reckless conduct, possession of a controlled narcotic drug, operating as an habitual offender and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
He is also charged with disobeying an officer, resisting arrest, simple assault, criminal trespass, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated, all misdemeanors.
On Oct. 25, around 2:45 a.m. Milford officers responded to 70 West Street for a reported burglary in progress and observed a man matching the description given running from the area towards Spaulding Street where he entered a car and drove at the officers, nearly striking them
Officers began to pursue the vehicle, described as being purple or blue SUV style.
The vehicle, a blue 2006 Chevy Equinox, headed west on Elm Street and entered the Hilton Homes development and turned onto Valhalla Drive and struck two vehicles, lost control and hit a tree at 12 Valhalla Drive. The suspect got out of the car and began to run with the officers in pursuit. They were able to take the man into custody after a brief struggle.
Sylvester was arraigned in the 9th Circuit Court in Milford on Oct. 27 and is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on Nov. 5.
