Woman’s Club to sponsor Christmas Giving Tree

WILTON – The Wilton-Lyndeborough Woman’s Club will again sponsor the Christmas Giving Tree, a way to help those children in the two towns who will not otherwise have a Christmas present.

Dawn Tuomala described the program for selectmen on Monday, Nov. 3, and asked permission to place a tree in the town office lobby as they have for the past three years.

“There are children who don’t have the basic needs,” she said, like a winter coat or sheets for their bed. The Woman’s Club provides the coats as a separate program, she said.

They get a list of needy families from agencies and write the name, age, gender and need of each child on a tag which is placed on the tree for people to take. The gifts are returned to the club with the tag attached and delivered to the family.

The Lions Club is a sponsor as are both churches, each of which sponsors a family, although Selectman Bill Condra said the Lions “should take two families this year.”

Placement of the tree was approved, and there will also be one at the library.

Lyndeborough trees will be at Citizens’ Hall and the Tarbell Library.
