Lyndeborough school memories wanted

LYNDEBOROUGH – To all of those who attended one of the town’s one room schools: your memories of those days are wanted.

A history committee is preparing a book and video of both Florence Rideout Elementary School in Wilton and Lyndeborough Central School in Lyndeborough to record what is there now, the changes that are being made, and the new combined school when it opens next fall.

Polly Brown of Lyndeborough, who attended the Perham Corner School, wants to go back before LCS, to the days of one room schools at Perham Corner, Lyndeborough Center and South Lyndeborough. Those schools were closed in 1949 when the new Central School, with its two rooms and modern conveniences was opened.

In a note in “The Lyndeborough Views,” Brown says, “We know there are still people who have memories of school before 1949, living in our town or other areas outside of Lyndeborough, that have something to share.”

She would like to a memory gathering after the holidays. If you are interested, call Brown at 654-9234. Those memories will be added to the school history.
