Free tax preparation available in Greater Nashua
NASHUA – Greater Nashua taxpayers with a household income of $53,000 or less can have their 2014 federal income tax returns prepared for free at one of five locations.
Free tax help is offered through the Greater Nashua Asset Building Coalition. Volunteers who are trained and certified on IRS-approved software will help filers prepare their federal income tax returns and determine whether they qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit and other credits.
Free tax returns prepared by coalition volunteers for tax year 2013 brought more than $3.3 million in refunds to Nashua-area households, a 6 percent increase over the previous year. More than $12.1 million has been returned to the region over the last five years through the efforts of volunteers.
The EITC, which is designed to supplement wages of low- to moderate-income workers, can increase an eligible family’s tax refund significantly. Last year, 10,044 Greater Nashua filers claimed $19,475,499 in EITC. According to the IRS, the average EITC claimed in Greater Nashua last year was $1,452, with city of Nashua filers averaging a credit of $2,034; the average EITC claimed in New Hampshire was $1,931.
In many cases, an appointment is not needed; however some sites do require appointments.

Nashua Senior Activity Center, 70 Temple St. Available through April 9, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursdays.
Wadleigh Memorial Library, 49 Nashua St., Milford. Available through April 14, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays and 3:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays.
YMCA Merrimack, 6 Henry Clay Drive. Available through April 14, 9:30 a.m.-noon Mondays. Call 881-7778 for an appointment.
