Historical storyteller in Milford

On Sept. 16, Sharon Wood will present a living history program with the Milford Historical Society titled "A Tribute To Sarah Josepha Hale."

The program will highlight the life of Mrs. Hale who was born in Newport in 1788. As a widow with five children, she moved to Boston to edit "Ladies’ Magazine." That magazine eventually merged with the acclaimed Godey’s "Lady’s Book." Mrs. Hale is well known as the author of the children’s poem "Mary’s Lamb."

She also spent three decades of her life trying to have Thanksgiving decreed a national holiday.

Sharon Wood will tell the story of Mrs. Hale while portraying a Wood family ancestor who lived in West Cambridge, Mass., at the same time Mrs. Hale was editing Godey’s in Boston.

After the presentation, there will be time for questions and answers.

This program is being held in the banquet room of the town hall at 7 p.m. Please enter the building on Middle St. and take the elevator to the third floor.
