Time to Share in the Thanksgiving spirit
MILFORD – Families from Portland, Maine, to Portland, Ore., will be enjoying a Thanksgiving feast in a few weeks.
Not every family, though. There are people who’ll have trouble coming up with $50, considered the average price of a traditional holiday meal.
But in Amherst, Brookline, Milford and Mont Vernon, they can go to Share Outreach, which provided turkey and all the trimmings to 345 families last year. And not just at Thanksgiving, but at Christmas, as well.
On Nov. 23 and 24 ,volunteers will be filling Thanksgiving baskets at the Share building off Elm Street, and they need these items: stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables (corn, green beans), white cake mixes and frosting, pie crust, canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, evaporated milk, instant potatoes, chicken broth, apple juice (no glass), whole chickens and, of course, turkeys.
The Share Holiday Program will also be looking for holiday gifts in December.
Families, book groups, friends, coworkers and individuals can adopt families, and the program typically helps 180 families, with children ages 16 and younger. Share will provide information about the family members as guidelines forappropriate gifts. Gift cards, monetary donations and volunteers are also welcome.
To donate or for more information, call 673-9898, visit www.sharenh.org or email holiday@sharenh. org. No donation is too small.
Donations may be dropped off at the Share Center at 1 Columbus Ave. in Milford (behind 70 Elm St., Federated Auto Parts) Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., or call ahead for a more convenient time.
Market Basket and Shaw’s supermarkets both have collection barrels for Share this year.
