High Mowing to host ‘Winter Chiller’ race
WILTON – The Monadnock Regional Milers running club is staging a 4-mile race for all ages and abilities at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at High Mowing School.
The "Winter Chiller" race is the second in a six-run series hosted by the Peterborough-based Milers to promote recreation and camaraderie for cold-weather runners and walkers.
Smith said she expects 40 or 50 runners and walkers on Saturday, from 7-year-old beginners to marathoners in their 70s.
The race will begin at the school, 222 Isaac Frye Highway at the top of Abbot Hill, and follow Mason and Badger Farm roads in a loop.
A $5 registration will be collected starting at 8 a.m. and nonperishable food items are being gathered for donation to local food pantries. Coffee and refreshments will be served at the end of the race, and prizes for best male and female time and participation will be awarded.
The club advises participants to use traction aids and to dress appropriately when running in the cold.
