Driver rescued after crash
WARNER – Motorists came to the aid of an elderly Milford man on the afternoon of May 7, rescuing him from his vehicle after it left Interstate 89 and landed in a bog, police said.
John Wolfgang, 75, was treated at the scene, then transported to Concord Hospital for treatment of what state police described as injuries that weren’t life-threatening. Police said that by the time they and emergency medical personnel arrived, passersby had helped Wolfgang out of his partially submerged Kia Sedona van and helped him to higher ground.
Police said Wolfgang was traveling north when he fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in his vehicle drifting off the left side of the highway. The van struck a signpost, then traveled roughly 450 feet before coming to rest in the bog, police said. Police closed the highspeed lane as they investigated and while crews worked to remove the van from the bog. Police ask that anyone who has more information about the crash to call Trooper Michael Berntsen at 223-4381.
