MILFORD – The Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Planning Board voted unanimously last week to give Hampshire Hills Athletic Club the go-ahead to rebuild the Hampshire Dome.

The sports facility’s fabric structure was damaged during the Election Day blizzard on March 14 from the heavy weight of snow and ice.

The indoor, 94,000-square-foot arena was covered by an air-supported roof. It was used for numerous sports leagues and tournaments, as well as special events such as business expos, home and boat shows, and concerts.

The ZBA approved a special exception, and the Planning Board approved the site plan revision for the Emerson Road structure. Planning Board Vice Chairwoman Janet Langdell said holding the two meetings jointly served to streamline “the process and timeline for an established business in the midst of a rather unusual situation.”

Operations at Hampshire Hills Athletic Club next door have continued as usual. The dome is expect to be ready for use this summer.
