Summer Academy slated for local students

The session would target incoming students who “don’t have an educational background and no school socializing,” Superintendent Bryan Lane said. “It will be an invitation, not a requirement.”

Lane said he has already “spoken with parents who are interested.”

“Ten students entered first grade with no educational background” – that is, no form of kindergarten, which puts them behind the other students at the beginning, Lane said this year. “These are not special needs children. They weren’t part of our kindergarten program.”

The academy is part of the new program targeting children who are struggling because of background or home conditions that impede their progress.
