Discover Amherst Day & Community Supper set for Sept. 16th
The Discover Amherst Day and Community Supper is a fundraiser for the Historical Society of Amherst. There are many options for you to participate in this event throughout the day and have fun at the same time!
Free Walking Tours: We will be leading three guided walking tours through the Historic Amherst Village, leaving the Chapel Museum (located on the corner of Middle and Church streets) at noon, 1 and 2 p.m. These tours are open to all and are free of charge. Come hear the fascinating details behind such iconic Amherst landmarks such as the Second Meeting House (Congregational Church), the Civil War monument, the Means Mansion (and others) from those who know the real stories!
Goods on the Green! The following Amherst Civic Groups will be on the Green with a variety of Amherst-related items for sale from noon-3 p.m.
Historical Society: terrific historical publications and unique Amherst-themed clothing items.
Amherst Villagers: note cards featuring iconic photographs by some of Amherst’s best photographers!
D.A.R.: engraved Amherst wine glasses (the only way to drink wine in historic Amherst) as well as their Amherst old-fashioned glasses and a cookbook of recipes from some of the best cooks in town!
Free Presentations! We will have two presentations at the Historic Wigwam Museum. These are free of charge and open to all!
1 p.m.: Amherst Unearthed! Local metal detectorist Michael Warren will talk about what he has found beneath the soils of Amherst and will bring some of his collection of artifacts.
2 p.m.: In Vino Veritas. Dave Quigley, owner of King Street Vineyards, will speak about the history of wine in New Hampshire, and the particular challenges of growing grapes and fruit trees that colonists – as well as current day back yard farmers – face in New Hampshire.
Silent Auction: The items will be on display during the walking tours and absentee bidding sheets are available in case you can’t make the dinner! During dinner, visit our silent auction tables to bid on some incredible items. (Bidding on auction items will start to end at 6:30 and all items will be available for pick up at 7).
Dinner on the Green! – Join your neighbors and friends for a festive evening on the Green (5:30-7 p.m.), with a Silent Auction! You have the option of ‘buying’ an entire table, or separate seats at the Community Supper! There is also a pre-dinner cider and appetizer reception at the Wigwam for those attending the dinner. Bring your questions for the walking tour docents as well as Michael and David so that you can get the rest of the story!
Tickets are available via the PayPal link at hsanh.org. Please purchase your tickets prior to Sept. 12 so that we can get an accurate table count.
1: Table Purchase ($100) – Each table will seat eight, more if you are really friendly, and will sell quickly at $100 per table. We will provide the tables, chairs and tablecloths, please feel free to come early and decorate your own table! Each guest should bring a picnic basket including their favorite gourmet meal for themselves, cutlery, dishware, and glassware and a garbage bag. You and your guests may arrive on the Green at 5 p.m. to decorate your table!
2: Individual Tickets for community tables ($15) – You will join a community table with others for a fun evening. We will provide the tables, chairs and tablecloths, please feel free to come early and decorate your own table! Each guest should bring a picnic basket including their favorite gourmet meal for themselves, cutlery, dishware, and glassware and a garbage bag. You and your guests can arrive on the Green at 5 p.m. to help decorate your table!
