Brookline Democrats to host spaghetti dinner March 23

Have you ever wanted to know what is going on in your state, your Legislature, and your community? Tonight, you can at a spaghetti dinner hosted by the Brookline Democrats, at the Brookline Community Church.

Along with political presentations, you enjoy sinner and live local musical entertainment.

According to former state representative and Brookline resident Melanie Levesque,

“The dinner is to give people an opportunity to get together with like minded-people and to meet our candidates.”

Throughout the evening guests will have a chance to hear about changes in the Legislature over the last year, pending bills and growing trends in New Hampshire’s political arena.

To help fill the information gap, the Brookline Democrats have invited a number of local candidates and politicians to speak briefly on the state of The State. Among those scheduled to speak is Jackie Cilley, a democratic candidate for the open seat that Gov. John Lynch will be leaving at the end of this term.

Also on the roster for the evening are presentations by senatorial candidate and active local democrat Peggy Gilmour as well as congressional candidate Ann Mclane Custer.

According to the group, many residents do not realize that the local community has a strong and active voice within the Democratic Party. This event was created specifically to help counter the sense of social and political isolation some local democrats and independents might be feeling.

The group hopes to help people get a better understanding of what is happening both locally and at a state level and encourage them to get involved.

“It’s a good opportunity to meet new people,” Levesque said, as she talked about creating an open environment where people from all parties as well as independents could come to hear about the state of politics in New Hampshire.

Recognizing that the towns of Hollis, Brookline, Milford and Mason share a local political and social landscape as well, as representation at times, the Brookline Democrats welcome folks from the surrounding communities as well.

The dinner will be at 7 p.m. at the Brookline Community Church, and includes gluten-free options, with several homemade sauces, salads, breads and desserts. Tickets are available through the Brookline Democrats website, www.brookline democrats.org. Cost is $13 and a family ticket goes for $25.
