Brookline’s Captain Samuel Douglas Academy Principal Lorraine Wenger to retire

BROOKLINE – Lorraine Wenger, principal of Captain Samuel Douglass Academy, announced her retirement at the Jan. 28 meeting of the Brookline School Board.

She has been principal for 14 years and will step down at the end of the current school year.

In her letter to the board, she said she was looking forward to spending time with family and friends, traveling, painting, gardening and enjoying her granddaughters. The board unanimously accepted her resignation “with regret.”

Interim Assistant Superintendent Cindy Matte said the job description has been updated and the vacancy is ready to be advertised. A Principal Search Committee will be formed, consisting of Liz Perry, principal at Richard Maghakian Memorial School, two teachers, one support staff member, two parents, one SAU administrator and one school board member. Chris Adams volunteered to serve as the school board member.

Applications are due by Feb. 28 and following interviews and site visits, Matte expects a finalist will be presented to the board for approval at its March 18 meeting.
