Beaver Brook Nature Center events planned

HOLLIS – Beaver Brook Nature Center is planning several events for adults and kids.

Registration is required. To reserve a spot, call 465-7787 or visit www.beaverbrook.org.

The Saturday Nature Club for children in grades 1-4 grade will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Beaver Brook Nature Center. The cost is $47 for nonmembers and $42 for members.

Nov. 15: New England Wildlife get ready for winter.

Nov. 22: Native Americans.

Drop your child off at the Maple Hill Farm campus of Beaver Brook on Saturdays and let them explore a new outdoor theme each week. Themes include ponds, trees in autumn, bats and owls, and New England wildlife signs and clues, just to name a few. Each week, children will hike, play games, do crafts and learn to appreciate nature.

Everyone will need to bring a snack, lunch, bug spray and backpack, as well as wear appropriate attire depending on the weather. (Yes, the program is still held if it rains.)

Don’t stay inside just because school has started – unplug and get outside.

A Survival Skills Overnight for Adults will be held Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 15-16, at the Beaver Brook Nature Center cabins. Skills covered will include making fires, building shelters, wild edible and medicinal plants, tracking, nature awareness and more.

Whether your love is for the backcountry or the backyard, this course will enrich your outdoor experience. The cost is $100 for nonmembers and $90 for members. Instructors are Chick Wetherbee and Matt Abatelli.
