Hollis girl receives scholarship at Fitchburg school
FITCHBURG, Mass. – Isabelle Hu, of Hollis, is an Applewild School scholar and a recipient of an AppleCore Scholarship.
When Isabelle and her parents visited the school during her fourth-grade year, they were pleased with what they saw and who they met at the K-8 school. An additional incentive to the family was that Applewild offers scholarships to qualified applicants. AppleCore Scholarships, which renew annually, are awarded to students who show academic promise and good citizenship, reflecting the school’s core values.
After Isabelle went through the application process, she was accepted and offered the scholarship.
Dr. Brian Hu and Dr. Jie Cheng, Isabelle’s parents, said they’re pleased with what the school has provided for their daughter: “Applewild School offers students a positive and rich learning environment, and the teachers encourage all kids to excel in academics, community service, art and sports. Applewild students also have an opportunity to learn the important skills of time management, organization skills, public speaking and teamwork.”
Isabelle, now in her second year at the school, is proving to be an accomplished student, as well as a good citizen. The sixth-grader is enthusiastic about her experiences, particularly one of her favorite classes: shop.
“We get to measure and cut wood, sand, paint and add finishing details,” she said. “I love learning how to make real furniture.”
In addition to merit-based scholarships, Applewild offers financial aid to qualified families based on financial need. Beginning in the current school year, the school launched its Affordability Initiative, which features an enhanced formula for awarding financial aid, making it more available to middle-income families.
Transportation is available from the Hollis area.
The school holds three major open houses each year for families interested in kindergarten through eighth grade. The next open house will be Saturday, Jan. 24.
In addition, parents can come to the monthly “Take a Look” mornings on the first Thursday of each month to see students and teachers in action. The next “Take a Look” morning is Jan. 8.
