Give them a ‘hive five’: Brookline, Hollis women graduate from Bee School

MERRIMACK – Four local women graduated from Bee School held by the Merrimack Valley Beekeepers Association.

The women were Lisa Cole, Tricia Thompson and Lynn Giblin, all of Brookline, and Arelys Jimenez, of Hollis.

The nonprofit MVBA is one of seven statewide groups composed of novice and professional beekeepers.

The women joined around 100 students seeking to learn more about the ancient science of beekeeping and its value to home gardeners and farmers alike. Nearly a dozen expert instructors from many towns taught the classes, which featured exhibits, videos and a wealth of printed materials describing the process of honey production, the pollination of fruits, flowers and vegetables, the equipment needed to establish a honeybee colony and many other topics.

Bee School began March 3, with classes held on consecutive Tuesday evenings at St. James United Methodist Church in Merrimack. For more information, visit
