NH arts council seeks grant applications, offers artist directory

The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts is accepting Arts in Health Project Grant applications through Friday, May 22.

Not-for-profit health care facilities, rehabilitation centers and centers serving needs of the elderly are encouraged to apply.

Qualified artists interested in working at health care facilities through the council’s programs are invited to apply to join the N.H. Arts in Health Artist Directory.

Grant requests may be made for $500-$4,500; projects must take place between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016. Grants must be matched on at least a one-to-one basis. In-kind contributions may comprise up to 50 percent of the required match.

The Arts in Health Artist Directory includes performing, literary, media and visual artists who are skilled in working in a range of health care facilities.

New this year, both grant and artist roster applications may be submitted online.

The council is committed to meeting the needs of underserved populations, including the elderly, people with disabilities and people with health challenges.

Information about the grant program and the artist directory is available at nh.gov/nharts. For further assistance, contact Catherine O’Brian, Arts in Health grants and programs coordinator, at catherine.r.obrian@dcr.nh.gov or 271-0795.

The council is a publicly funded agency within New Hampshire’s Department of Cultural Resources. It began in 1965 with the passage of a law designed “to ensure that the role of the arts in the life of our communities will continue to grow and play an ever more significant part in the education and welfare of our citizens.”

Funding comes from state appropriations and from the National Endowment for the Arts.
