Artist donates painting to raise funds for Nashua Senior Center

NASHUA – An artist was so inspired by the “Fire and Fusion” event last year that she donated a painting to be sold to raise funds for the Nashua Senior Activity Center.

The center will hold an auction for this work of art over the next month.

“Fire and Fusion,” a mixed-media work by Susan Burgess, is 24 by 16 inches and is done on wood panel. All edges are painted so that it can be hung as is or framed. The painting has been sealed and should last more than a lifetime.

The painting was created with the senior center in the mind of the artist. It represents a fusion of the element of fire and music in the form of jazz fusion. Also present are background papers, some of which are antique musical notes from old lesson books and a hymnal.

If you look closely, you can see the words “I am listening,” in hopes that the people of Nashua can hear the voices of the elderly and their need to belong and still be a constructive part of our society – also symbolic of how fire is like aging and music fuses age into wisdom like living our lives.

Burgess, also known as “Sanna,” received her bachelor’s degree in fine art from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She does many charitable contributions, and her art is celebrated internationally.

Burgess served a term in the Air Force and went on to receive her master’s degree in counseling in human development from Troy State University.
