The Cavs saw a 21-8 first quarter lead evaporate to 48-46 in the second half but Steve Giaconia hit a big 3-pointer to ignite a run as the Cavs improved to 10-5 with their sixth in a row, seventh out of their last eight. Nick Fothergill had 20 to lead the way while kyle Szewczyk and Giaconia each had 14. Mike Simco chipped in with 10 points.

Cavaliers hockey tryouts

The Southern New Hampshire Cavaliers youth hockey program will be holding tryouts at Skate 3 in Tyngsborough, Mass., for various age levels. There will be two tryout dates per level, a skills session and a scrimmage. Youths are encouraged to attend both sessons. The tryout fee is $50 per child, and a registration form will be available on line in the next couple of weeks.

Tryout dates are as follows:

Mites (2008-09 birth years) – March 11, 5:20 p.m. skills, March 14, 5:05 p.m., scrimmage.

Squirts (2006-07) – March 11, 6:20 p.m, skills; March 15, 5:40 p.m., scrimmage.

PeeWees (2004-05) – March 11, 7:20 p.m., skills; March 14, 7:55 p.m., scrimmage.

Bantam (2002-03) – March 11, 8:20 p.m., skills; March 14, 8:55 p.m., scrimmage.

Midget Minors, Majors (1998-2001) – March 11, 9:20 p.m., skills; March 13, 10:50 a.m., scrimmage.
