Kitty Angels event raises funds for no-kill cat shelter

AMHERST – Treasures Antiques, Collectables & More, 106 Ponemah Road, will host a Kitty Angels Fundraiser and Adoption Days event from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 30 and May 1.

Kitty Angels is a no-kill cat shelter run by volunteers and is dedicated to rescuing stray and abandoned cats, furnishing them with treatment for injuries or other health issues before placing them into their new forever homes with compatible owners. Learn more at www.kittyangels.org.

This year’s event will feature more than 100 vendors in an entertaining crafts, flea market, yard sale and county-fair type atmosphere complete with live bands. Members of the Amherst Animal Hospital will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

The New England Brethren of Pirates, a re-enactment and improv troupe, will entertain guests as characters from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, selling handmade wares and playing fun, pirate-themed games with children. Derek Fimbel will entertain with folk music on Saturday from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and Back to the Garden will play on Sunday from 11a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. Nevajans’ Farm will bring their petting zoo suitable for all ages.

There also will be food vendors, including Sillie Puffs, Jake’s Ice Cream, Royal Towne Fudge, Enchanted Harvest (herbs), Grass Brook Maple Products, Dippy Chippy & More and Hickory Nut Farm. There are several other natural product food vendors.

Artisans, crafters and businesses will include Damsel in Defense and Paws & Pockets, plus chair massages by Paul Mosier LAC and a growing list of other vendors.

Along with the various yard sale items, you’ll be guaranteed to uncover a bargain for yourself, your pet, your home or your garden sanctuary, as items include pet supplies, jewelry, honey, jams, syrups, candles, soaps, florals, sports, clothing, minerals, fossils, crystals, essential oils, handmade felt and wool products and more.

Cindia Jackson’s Fine Air-Roasted Coffee and Dunkin’ Donuts will be featured at the refreshment tent.

A raffle of numerous and diverse prizes will be featured throughout the fundraising weekend and into June. All prizes are donated by local and national businesses, including some of the on-site vendors.

If you’d like to make a donation but can’t come to the fundraiser, you may send a check or money order to Kitty Angels, P.O. Box 638, Tyngsborough, MA 01879. Put "Treasures" in the memo line. You also can drop off a check at Treasures, and they will forward it for you.

If you can’t make a monetary donation at this time but would like to help, material donations will be happily accepted, such as postage stamps, cat food (both dry and canned), kitty litter (non-scoopable preferred, but any litter is good litter), medical supplies, bedding (clean towels, blankets, quilts, clean denim and corduroy, quilted bedspreads), carriers, cleaning supplies including bleach, laundry detergent and paper towels, photocopy paper, cat toys and cat furniture, and trash bags.

You don’t have to wait for this event to drop off any donations for Kitty Angels. Drop off donations anytime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily at Treasures Antiques.

Clark & Leighton, P.C. Dentistry, donated a portion of their land for this event.

To be a vendor for the event, there is a donation fee of $30 for an outdoor space for two days. Call Sherry or Rick at 566-9611.

The event will be held rain or shine.
