Hollis students win national arts awards

HOLLIS – Hollis elementary students recently participated in the "Reflections" art competition sponsored by the PTA.

There were 33 entries submitted by Hollis students. These students placed at the state level:

Sylvia Bird, first place, Literature.

Ania Szczeszynski, first place, Music Composition.

Olivia Colantuonio, first place, Visual Arts.

Abbas Jagmag, first place, Film.

Rosie McQuilkin, second place, Photography.

Sophia Silvestro, third place, Literature.

Alina Szczeszynski, third place, Music Composition.

Isabelle Colantuonio, third place, Photography.

Olivia Colantuonio, third place, Film.

Humza Jagmag, honorable mention, Visual Arts.

William Bird, honorable mention, Visual Arts.

In addition, two students recently received national acclaim for their submissions. Sylvia’s literature won one of only three national-level Awards of Excellence and Ania’s music composition won one of only five national- level Awards of Merit.

The PTA "Reflections" program aims to encourage children to express themselves creatively in various media.

They include photography, visual arts, literature, music composition and dance choreography.

Community members and teachers offered their support as volunteer judges for the program.
