Comedy Dinner, Family Fun Day benefit police departments

On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Friends of the Hollis and Brookline Police Departments will hold their first appreciation day and fundraiser.

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Family Fun Day will be held at Richard Maghakian Middle School in Brookline. There will be games with the officers, a K-9 demostration, a tug of war, vendors, raffles, 50/50 tickets and food.

Evening events will be at Alpine Grove Banquet Facility in Hollis from 6-11 p.m. A dinner/comedy show will feature three comedians: Jack Lynch, founder of; Karl Zahn, former co-host on "The Dennis Miller Show"; and Joey Carroll, who has performed around the world, including the Los Angeles Improv.

There will be a disc jockey for dancing and a live auction, with items including a helicopter ride for two, a reclaimed table from Bingham Lumber, a Husqvarna 440 chain saw, a backpack blower and a home inspection, to name a few. The 50/50 raffle is already over $500.

Here is how you can help:

Donate a raffle or auction item – a gift certificate from your business, a gift basket or an item that markets/advertises your business.

Make a monetary donation – for any donation over $250, your name/business name will be included on a banner of recognition, which will be displayed at the Family Fun Day and at the Comedy Dinner. Should you choose to make a monetary donation, please make your check payable to the Hollis Police Benevolent Association and send it to 9 Silver Lake Road, Hollis, NH 03049.

All money raised from these events will be split 50/50 and given to the Brookline and Hollis police associations.

Residents and businesses have also donated tickets so members of the police department and their spouses/significant others can attend the Comedy Dinner. Tickets for the general public are $35.
