Bone marrow registration drive scheduled for Nov. 22 in Hollis
HOLLIS – Be The Match, in collaboration with the Hollis Police Department, will host a bone marrow registration drive from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Lawrence Barn Community Center, 28 Depot Road.
The drive is in honor of Jeanie Dreyer and other blood cancer patients.
About 70 percent of patients with blood cancers are in need of a bone marrow transplant and will not match with a family member. They will turn to Be The Match to find their donor.
To be eligible to register at the drive, you must be between ages 18 and 44, be in general good health and be willing to donate to any patient in need. Registration involves a simple cheek swab and filling out an application.
There is no charge to register at the event. Donors will be entered in a raffle to win prizes, and can enjoy complimentary food and beverages.
Interested donors ages 45-60 can obtain information at the event about registering online or can visit www.bethematch.org.
