Hollis church teams up with Habitat for Humanity

HOLLIS – On Saturday, June 17, Congregational Church of Hollis members volunteered their time to continue the building of a soon-to-be-home for two local families in need of decent, affordable housing at Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity’s build site located at 42 Chestnut Street in Nashua.

Cindy Ryherd, a member of the Congregational Church of Hollis’ Mission and Action Board, organized the build day through the GNHFH Faith Build Program. The program is designed to give local groups of volunteers from churches, congregations and other faith homes a way to put their faith into action, get involved with their community and learn about housing needs within the Greater Nashua community.

The group arrived bright and early to start their Faith Build, working on the second floor of the home. They worked on projects such as framing, cutting foam board for insulation and hanging plywood on the second floor. The entire group, including the Habitat build crew, members enjoyed pizza and salad thanks to Kinsley House of Pizza.

The group had such a nice day putting their faith into action that the Congregational Church of Hollis has already booked another Faith Build with Habitat.

“Our whole team really enjoyed the experience! It felt great being able to help out Nashua Habitat for Humanity,” said Ryherd. “We’re looking forward to helping again in September!”

Habitat’s Faith Build Program brings groups of eight to 10 volunteers together for an exclusive day of building and bonding at a Habitat build site. This program funds the building of Habitat homes in the Greater Nashua area. Throughout the day, volunteers learn new skills, increase morale all while improving group communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. In addition, Habitat provides catered lunch, goodie bags which include T-shirts, digital photos of your group building on site and promotional benefits to applicable groups. No construction skills are necessary and all tools, training and safety equipment are provided by an experienced build crew on site.
