Blue-ribbon apple pies wanted

HOLLIS – Do you enjoy baking apple pies from scratch? The Old Home Days’ judges want to taste your creation! Whether it is an heirloom recipe, family favorite or a first time try, we want your best pie to win a prize ribbon.

Hollis Woman’s Club is again sponsoring the contest. Proceeds from the pies are used for charitable donations. It’s a win-win opportunity.

Simply submit your pie from 9:30 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Apple Pie Contest tent at Nichols Field. Entry forms will be at the table. There is no entry fee.

Here are the contest rules:

• One entry per person.

• Homemade apple pie from scratch.

• Recipes should accompany entry.

There are three categories: Children up to age 12; students age 13-21 and adults age 22 and older.

Judging will be at 12:30 p.m. and winners are announced by the Old Home Days committee. Ribbons for first, second and third place will be awarded for each division. A monetary prize will be given for first place entries in each division.

A helpful hint: Make your pie in a disposable tin so you don’t have to pick up your pie plate after the event.

Slices of pie will be available once the judging is completed. For more information visit contest.
