Vehicle offense leads to arrest

MERRIMACK – A situation stemming from a minor motor vehicle offense went from bad to worse for the passenger, who had a warrant out for failing to appear in court in August, and a stolen debit card in his wallet.

On Sept. 12, Merrimack police stopped a motor vehicle for a minor offense. Upon checking the vehicle, police discovered passenger Jason Morrissey, 25, of 198 Grove St., Manchester, had a warrant out for failure to appear in Hillsborough County Superior Court-Northern District on Aug. 8.

At the time, Morrisey was scheduled to appear for a felony receiving stolen property charge, police said.

Morrissey was arrested, searched, and transported to the Merrimack Police Department for processing. Once at the station, officers discovered a debit card in Morrissey’s pocket that belonged to someone else, police said.

The owner of the debit card was later contacted, revealing the debit card was stolen earlier out of the owner’s vehicle while parked in Manchester, police said.

Morrissey was charged with receiving stolen property for having the debit card in his possession. He was processed and placed on $1,000 personal recognizance bail. He was released to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department and is scheduled to appear at Merrimack Circuit Court Oct. 4.
