Merrimack Girl Scout earns Bronze Award

Mikayla Ottman, from Girl Scout Troop 12129, completed her Bronze Award recently. The project she chose was to make sensory boxes for the Mastricola Early Education Program.

The Early Education Program is a developmental preschool program for ages 3-4 in which children with and without special needs have the opportunity to play and learn together. Sensory boxes help children with imaginative play and literacy skills and provide learning opportunities.

Ottman donated five boxes:

? A Music Box, with drums, shakers, tambourine and other items that make sounds.

? A Bean Box, with colored beans, measuring cups, tongs and ice cube trays for sorting and play.

? A Lacing Box, with colored pasta and various strings and laces to help with sorting, patterns and lacing.

? A Rainbow Box, with colored pompoms, tongs and tubes for color sorting, color cards, stress balls and other items to show various colors.

? A Letters & Numbers Box, with magnetic letters and numbers, alphabet cards, foam letters, word cards and a magnetic tray to help with literacy.

Helping Ottman make the project a success were her adviser, Elizabeth Hoffman, and her helpers, Beth Lewis, Andrea Hoffman, Jarrod Ottman and Michele Ottman.
