Filing period for candidates in Merrimack election opens next month
Town officials have announced that the filing period for candidates interested in running for town posts in the next town election opens Wednesday, Feb. 19, and closes at 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28. The deliberative session is Wednesday, March 12. The election is Tuesday, April 8.
Vacancies include two Town Council seats, open for a period of three years. One position is open on the Ethics Commission that entails service for three years. Two Library Trustee candidates are sought who will serve for terms of three years.
In addition, a vacancy is available for the position of Trustee of the Trust, a post that entails three years of service. Also up for consideration is a Moderator position that would require a commitment of two years. A Supervisor of the Checklist also is sought for a period of service of six years.
Each candidate must file with Town Clerk Diane Trippett, who also is the town’s tax collector. Each candidate must be a registered voter. Candidates for Town Council must have a period of residency in Merrimack for at least one year.
Trippett’s office is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, with an added consideration of a closure time at 5 p.m. on the last day of filing, Friday, Feb. 28.
