Merrimack competing in national dog park contest
MERRIMACK – The Friends of the Merrimack Dog Park announced that Merrimack has been nominated for a chance to win $100,000 to help Merrimack dogs have a space they can call their own at Wasserman Park.
PetSafe, which develops innovative pet behavioral, containment and lifestyle product solutions, is giving U.S. communities the opportunity to win funds to help build a dog park in its fifth annual Bark for Your Park Contest.
The contest, which launched May 13, will award one $100,000 grand prize and four finalists with $25,000 each to build an off-leash dog park in their community.
Through Wednesday, June 10, vote for Merrimack every day at petsafe.net/barkfor
yourpark and facebook.com/petsafebrand.
PetSafe will use population size and total number of votes to select 15 finalist communities, which will be announced around Monday, June 15.
If Merrimack is chosen as a finalist, a 30-second video will be produced, and people will then vote again in the second round of the contest. The finalist with the most votes will receive $100,000 to build a PetSafe dog park. Three runner-ups and the city with the highest percentage of votes compared with its population will each receive $25,000. Winners will be announced around Friday, July 31.
Merrimack’s 1-acre dog park will be incorporated into the existing town park at 116 Naticock Road. It will feature separate fenced-in areas for small and large dogs to romp freely.
The project will be funded entirely by private donations.
