Merrimack woman joins NH nonprofit dedicated to lung health

MANCHESTER – Breathe New Hampshire, the only nonprofit public health agency in New Hampshire dedicated solely to lung health, has hired Mary Ellen Hettinger, APR, of Merrimack, as director of public relations and communications.

"I’m excited about helping Breathe NH celebrate its centennial in 2016," Hettinger said.

Hettinger previously was at Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains for more than seven years. Prior to that, Hettinger was a reporter for The Cabinet in Milford, where she won two New Hampshire Press Association Best Feature awards. She has also earned awards for website writing and book editing, and continues this work as Write Stuff Writing & Editing.

Hettinger was the last chairwoman of the New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Women and is on the board of the New Hampshire Women’s Foundation.

Hettinger, a director of the Yankee Public Relations Society of America, is accredited in public relations (APR) and is co-chairwoman of the Accreditation Committee to advance professionalism in the field.

Hettinger is vice chairwoman of the Ambassador Committee of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. She has also chaired the annual "Messiah Sing!" in Mont Vernon for 10 years.
