MERRIMACK – The Merrimack Parks & Recreation Department invites you to join us on Saturday, Feb. 20, from noon-3 p.m. for the 24th annual Winter Carnival and the second annual Cardboard Box Sledding Contest at Wasserman Park.

Enjoy a day of free family activities, including an Ice Fishing Derby by the Merrimack Lions Club, snowmobile rides by the Merrimack Sno Buds, story time from the Merrimack Public Library, snowshoe demos from Eastern Mountain Sports, face painting with ConvenientMD, carnival games with Cub Scout Pack 525, arts and crafts with the American Cancer Society, Usborn Books & More and The Learning Experience, games and raffle prizes from Launch Trampoline Park, s’mores making at the outdoor campfire and much more.

In the function hall, there will be baked goods, food and drinks for sale from the Merrimack Friends & Family and the Merrimack High School Leos Club in the front room, while the Independent Karate School and Southern New Hampshire Flying Eagles will hold demonstrations in the main room. Music and entertainment will be provided by our friends at 96.5 The Mill Radio Station.

Interested in joining in the Cardboard Box Sledding Contest? Test your creativity by constructing a person-powered, corrugated cardboard sled capable of withstanding and completing a mind-chilling descent down the snow-covered hill. Races start at 1:30 p.m. and will be judged by originality, costumes and construction design.

Prizes will be awarded for fastest sled, best use of cardboard and most creative design. Sled themes, costumes and enthusiasm are strongly recommended.

Advance registration is required. Please visit the Parks & Recreation website to register by Friday, Feb. 19.

We invite you to participate and come enjoy this wonderful event with your family.
