Merrimack man raising awareness for Alzheimer’s

MERRIMACK – Bob Bergin, of Merrimack, is rallying his team Merrimack Hot Dogz to raise funds and awareness for an Alzheimer’s Association event called The Longest Day on Monday, June 20.

Funds raised by Bergin will benefit the research, programs and public awareness efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association in New Hampshire.

From sunrise to sunset, teams across the nation participate in activities on The Longest Day to honor someone facing Alzheimer’s. The duration of the event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers.

"Dementia knows no boundaries," Bergin said. "Our society desperately needs to appreciate that we can help in the fight to end Alzheimer’s."

Bergin hopes to mobilize the town of Merrimack on June 20 to raise awareness and funds by setting up hot dog stands throughout town. With the help of the Knights of Columbus and Bergin’s local church, Our Lady of Mercy, they hope to sell 1,000 hot dogs at three locations.

"I want to have a central location and two satellites near the off ramps of the Everett Turnpike," Bergin said. "We will be doing preorders and making local deliveries on minimum orders of $50."
