Merrimack senior wins DAR ROTC award
Tia Gaumont, a senior at Merrimack High School and a cadet in the Aerospace Science Program at Alvirne High School, was recently presented the DAR National Defense Committee ROTC award during a ceremony at Alvirne.
A certificate and bronze medal were presented to Gaumont by Ruth Parker, a member of the Matthew Thornton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Gaumont is the eighth student in the Alvirne JROTC program to receive this award. To be eligible, cadet must rank in the top 25 percent of their aerospace science class, rank in the top 25 percent of their high school class, demonstrate qualities of dependability and good character, demonstrate adherence to military discipline, and possess leadership ability and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC training.
Gaumont is the daughter of Jeffrey and Kim Gaumont. She plans to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
The JROTC program at Alvirne is under the leadership of retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Mike Dubeau.
