Merrimack students presented awards at Nashua Catholic Junior High

NASHUA – Eighth-graders were honored for their achievements in academics and service to others during the scholastic awards and graduation ceremonies for Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School recently.

These Merrimack residents were recognized:

? Alex Williams, son of Paul and Laurie Williams, was awarded the Helen J. Horan Scholarship.

The scholarship was made possible by a bequest to the school by the Rev. Denis Horan, the school’s chaplain from 1997-2006, in memory of his sister Helen. The recipient receives a four-year scholarship to continue Catholic education at a Catholic high school.

Applicants must demonstrate solid academic performance, be involved in the Nashua Catholic community, obtain letters of recommendation and complete a 500-word essay addressing how "A Catholic education is a gift of a lifetime." Alex plans to attend Bishop Guertin High School.

? Timothy Eckert, son of Don and Beth Eckert, was the recipient of the Nashua Catholic Principal’s Award for his leadership and contributions to the Nashua Catholic community. Timothy will attend Bishop Guertin.

? Brendan Duffy, son of Peter and Diane Duffy, was the recipient of the Nashua Catholic Spirit of the Rose Award. The award was presented to Brendan for his demonstration of integrity and willingness to work hard at helping others. Brendan will attend Trinity High School in Manchester.

? Lana Sukkar earned the Academy of Notre Dame Book Award for her academic achievements.
