Merrimack Police Department offers Halloween safety tips

It’s that time of year again for the ghosts and goblins to come out in the town of Merrimack.

Police Chief Mark Doyle announced that the hours for trick or treat this year will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.

The Merrimack Police Department will be participating in the Merrimack Parks and Recreation’s annual Halloween Fun Day on Friday, Oct. 28, at Wasserman Park, and the fun will continue with more events after the Fun Day. The festivities will start at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. Please stop by with your children to show off their costumes.

More information can be found on the Parks and Recreation Facebook page at www.facebook.com/events/1103814913031813.

Here are a few tips to keep everyone safe:

? While driving a vehicle on the night of Halloween, please drive slowly and be aware of children, as they might wander into the roadway.

? Always inspect all candy and other treats before allowing your children to eat.

? Be sure to pack a flashlight or glow sticks.

? Make sure your children are not running into the street. Children should walk along the side of the road.

? Do not trick or treat at houses without outside lights turned on.

? Parents should know the route your kids will be taking if you are not going with them. It is always the best choice for you join your children.

The most important safety tip is to use common sense and follow your judgment.
