Garden club hosts talk on raised beds

Grow It Green contributor, agricultural resource and UNH Cooperative Extension educator, Margaret Hagen will be presenting a program on “Raised Vegetable and Herb Garden Beds,” to the Merrimack Garden Club on Tuesday, April 24, at St. James Methodist Church.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program starts at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. The church is located at 646 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack.

If you have a patio or very small back yard and want to grow some outstanding fresh produce, this talk is for you. Come learn how you can adapt just about any space or container to grow fresh, luscious herbs and vegetables for your summer table. We’ll look at growing systems, container types, soil mixes, growing techniques, varieties for small spaces, companion plants and resources for more information.

Margaret Hagen worked teaching horticulture for the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension for 30 years. She initiated the development of the New Hampshire Master Gardener program and taped a weekly TV spot, “Grow It Green” for WMUR TV.
