Charlotte N. Hastings

Charlotte N. Hastings, 83, a longtime resident of Mason, NH, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the home of her son in Wilton, NH, after a short illness.

Mrs. Hastings was born in Woburn, MA, Sept. 12, 1927, daughter of Sigrid (Walther) and Axel Nordberg, and attended schools there.

She married Clifton W. Hastings on Nov. 4, 1950; he died May 21, 1997.

Mrs. Hastings was very active in the town of Mason and the Mason Congregational Church. She was the town clerk and the tax collector for many years. In October 2002 she was recognized by the town of Mason for 20 years of service.

At the church she was moderator for many years and president of the church’s Ladies Aid Society. She was an avid knitter and made thousands of mittens and dozens of sweaters for the church’s annual Christmas Fair. She and her husband were members of the Wolf Rockers Square Dance Club.

Mrs. Hastings was a member of many book clubs and loved to play cribbage and bridge.

She just recently celebrated the birth of her first great-grandson.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Riley, and her husband Steve of Swanzey, NH; four sons, Mark Hastings and his wife Edwina of Wilton, NH, Eric Hastings and his wife Audrey of Bow, NH, Kurt Hastings and his wife Debra of Nottingham, NH, and Jason Hastings and his wife Lupita of Colorado Springs, CO; one sister, Shirley Case of Venice, FL; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

One son, Scott Hastings, died on Dec. 22, 1984.

Mrs. Hastings had requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Home Health and Hospice Care, 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, NH 03060. Donations may be specified for Hospice.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of the Michaud Funeral Home, 32 Maple Street, Wilton, NH.

A celebration of Mrs. Hastings’s life will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Mason Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Mason.
