James D. Mahony Jr.

MILFORD, NH – James D. “Ducky” Mahony, Jr., 76, resident of Milford, died on January 3, 2014, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, NH, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 6, 1937, a son of James D. and Helen (Moran) Mahony. He graduated from Boston College High School, Class of 1955 and earned his B.S. degree from Northeastern University and his Master’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University.

Mr. Mahony made his home in Milford for the past 20 years and formerly lived in Nashua, NH, for many years.

He spent his career as an accountant and had been employed for Crosfield Electronics in Nashua and had also worked at PVA in Wilton.

Mr. Mahony was an avid golfer, enjoyed bargain hunting and was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. In addition, he volunteered as Santa Claus for various organizations.

He was a 4th degree knight and member of Milford Council Knights of Columbus #3035, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Nashua and the Society of the Preservation of Groundhogs.

Mr. Mahony was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford.

He served in the Massachusetts National Guard.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Judith (Watson) Mahony, who died in 1992, and a brother,
Stephen Mahony.

Family members include his wife, Margaret R. (Dietz) Mahony of Milford; five children, Cara A. O’Neil and her husband, Robert of Londonderry, NH, Jennifer Tolleson and her husband, Gary of Billerica, MA, James D. Mahony III and his wife, Melissa of Milford, NH, Becca Shimkin of Astoria, NY, Alex Homola and her husband, Jonathan of Nashua, NH; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen Mahony of Denver, CO, Margaret O’Connor and her husband, Daniel of Hingham, MA; a brother, Richard Mahony and his wife, Kathleen of Denver, CO; a sister-in-law, Maureen Mahony; his mother-in-law, Catherine I. Dietz of Milford; many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were Tuesday, January 7th from 2-4 p.m. & 6-9 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, January 8th, at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford. Burial followed in Edgewood Cemetery, Nashua.
